What is Hydrosorb®?
Hydrosorb® is our original patented technology for water and particulate removal. Hydrosorb® is a filter media impregnated with a super-absorbent. Water is absorbed as the fuel passes through the filters causing a flow restriction.
Does Hydrosorb® remove contaminants and water?
Yes, Hydrosorb® removes contaminants as it removes water from gasoline, diesel fuel, or fuel oil. Hydrosorb¨ is available in 10 and 30 micron.
What blends of gasoline should Hydrosorb® be used with?
Any blend that does not contain ethanol. The Alcohol Monitor filter should be used with ethanol blends up to E15.
If I use the Alcohol Monitor with regular gasoline, what happens?
Premature plugging of the filter will occur.
Can I use Hydrosorb® with alcohol-blended fuel?
Yes. However, the Hydrosorb® will not effectively remove water if the fuel has phase separation. Contaminants will be removed but phase separated solution may pass through. Only the Alcohol Monitor filter will detect phase separation and slow the flow of the dispenser to 2 gpm or less.
What is phase separation?
Phase separation occurs when water is introduced to the alcohol-gasoline blend. When enough water is introduced, the alcohol becomes incapable of staying dispersed in the solution. It will then separate out of the fuel. Introduction of such fuel into a motor vehicle will result in engine failure.
What is the expected life of a filter?
The life of any filter is dependant upon the quality of the fuel. The recommended change-out is when the flow slows to 3-5 gpm, when the differential pressure exceeds 20 psid, or every 6 months.
What is the difference between 2, 10, and 30 micron filters?
A micron is a unit of measure equaling 1 millionth of a meter, or .000039 of an inch. The lower the micron rating, the finer the filtration. 2 micron filters more contaminants than 30 micron.
What micron rating should I use with diesel fuel?
30 micron is typically used with diesel fuel; however, all micron ratings will filter the fuel. Some engine OEM's require 2 micron filtration.
What micron should I use with gasoline fuel?
10 micron is typically used with gasoline fuel; however, all micron ratings will filter the fuel.
Do you have a filter that will take fuel out of water?
No.
Can I install the filter on the suction side of the pump?
We do not recommend installation on the suction side. If you do install on the suction side, it is recommended the filter and/or pump have an internal bypass. If the filter becomes plugged it will not cavitate the pump.
What filters do you make for aviation fuel?
None of our filters are for use in aviation applications.
What is the difference between 300 and 400 filters?
The 400 series has 1½"-16 UNF nose thread; the 300 series has 1"-12 UNF nose thread.
What adaptor do I use with the 400 series?
Part number 50032 has 1" inlet/outlet and is for use with the 400 Series.
What is the 450 Series?
An 8" length filter.
What is the 475 Series?
A 10½" length filter for Gilbarco dispensers.
Do you have a 400 Series "Cap-Off"?
No.
What filter is to be used with high-alcohol content fuel? (E85)
For maximum corrosion protection, the High Bio-Content Filters, part of our Bio-Tek® line, are recommended for use with M85, M100, and E85 fuels. The internal components are nickel-coated and a special UL required GFLT gasket are used. Microglass media provides either 1 or 5 micron filtration.
What is the difference between 800 Series and Centurion filters?
The 800 Series is a replacement spin-on filter while the Centurion Series is a housing with replacement elements.
Do you have different sizes of Pre-Vent Fill Caps?
2" NPT is the only size available. A fill cap lock style is available.
At what PSI does the Pre-Vent Fill Cap relieve pressure?
2.5 PSI
Is there a vacuum release on the Pre-Vent Fill Cap?
Yes.
How often should I replace my Pre-Vent Fill Cap?
About every 3 years unless visible damage is present.
Why are the filter imprints different colors?
Color coding is used to differentiate the media and purpose: Red = Particulate Filtration Dark Blue = Water Detection and Particulate Filtration Green = Bio-Tek® for Renewable Fuels Blue = Industrial Filters Black = Wire Mesh lue = Blu Flame® Fuel Oil, Bio-Heat®
What does part number 30055 replace?
This is a replacement cartridge, Part Number GNG-315-5PL, for a Facet Housing.
What is "gravity flow"?
Gravity flow is typically an agriculture application where diesel fuel or gasoline is stored in above ground tanks. The fuel passes through a filter and is dispensed through a nozzle from the force of gravity. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
